Honoring The Past…
Historically speaking, crochet is a relatively new textile art. Expansive growth is only documented beginning in the mid 1800s. Hooks and thread were humble tools used to create versions of expensive lace in Ireland and England. From this modest beginning, crochet has become a creative force to be reckoned with and embraced.
Won’t you join me on a journey back in time to learn and be inspired? Where will your crochet journey take you?

What Lies Beneath

The Value of The Old Ways
One of my primary goals for this site and my work is to demonstrate that crochet lace is not just frilly decor found in the musty home of someone’s great-great-grandmother. Nor is it something only worthy of discarding to a thrift shop or antique shop to be sold by the pound.
Every single piece of crochet lace was made with very fine thread and tiny steel crochet hooks. Hours upon hours were spent making something that, at the time, was a thing of beauty in someone’s home. I want to challenge makers and artists to rethink their opinion on doilies and all forms of crochet lace. How can it be used in modern artistic applications? I believe that using the work of someone’s hands from a previous generation to create something new is an honorable pursuit.
I also want to challenge makers to consider what you make. Do you want your work to one day end up in a trash bin simply because it is out of style? Do you create without regard to the consequences of massive consumerism?
These are just my thoughts and things we can all ponder together as makers and artists.
